East Tennessee avoids major flooding after weekend of rain


As rain moves out of East Tennessee, flooding is still a risk in some areas, though rainfall totals didn t hit the worrisome levels that were predicted.  
Blount County deputies warned residents Monday morning that some local roads were closed for flooding, but standing water wasn t widespread across the region. In the past two years, flooding has caused major damage.
On Friday, the Tennessee Valley Authority began spilling water from its nine dams along the Tennessee River to maximize flood storage space ahead of the weekend rain. 
Knoxville and most of the surrounding area received about 2 inches of rain over the weekend. Rainfall totals in Campbell, Morgan and Scott counties reached 3 inches. About a quarter-inch more rain is expected to fall on the area when precipitation returns Tuesday evening.  ....
