Local runners take action to Bash Trail Trash in Saddleworth

Volunteers collecting over 60 bags of rubbish
A new local community initiative to clean up the trails around Saddleworth and bash the trash has started after Easter.
A walk over Blackstone Edge and the Windy Hill Transmitter on Easter Bank Holiday Monday, April 5, was the inspiration behind the project. 
While walking across the moors, Greenfield residents Colin Green and Jane Tonge were shocked to see the amount of litter, fly tipping and general rubbish left on the trail around the Windy Hill car park in Saddleworth, near the M62. ....

The state spent $15 million to remove roadside litter in 2015

What started out as something for Amy Albritton to do on her Mondays off has created a local following of people who share her same dislike for litter.
Albritton’s work schedule changed last September, leaving her off every Monday. She quickly phoned her mom, Debbie Anderson, to see if she would join her in picking up trash off of roads.  
The two posted a selfie on social media after cleaning parts of Highland Avenue and other surrounding streets, and Kinston s Trash Bashers was born on September 21, 2020. The duo soon turned into a group of five – and six months and 611 13-gallon trash bags later, four groups now clean up streets, ditches, and properties within Lenoir County. ....

East Kinston led cleanup event by the Kinston Police Department


Interested volunteers do not need to signup but simply show up at 8 a.m. in the parking lot behind the police department located at 205 E. King Street. Trash pick-up tool, gloves, trash bags and buckets will be provided with limited availability. Volunteers are encouraged to bring some additional supplies if they can.  
The cleanup will focus on East Bright Street and Shine Street area, and South Queen Street to Adkin Street.  
“It’s just an area where we see a large amount of trashing,” Goyette said. “People can take pride in their community, and we want people to be willing to come out and want to be part of this.”  ....
