Pensacola gas: Cyber attack, EPA violation causes gas shortages

The shutdown has caused Pensacola area gas stations to have inconsistent supply for weeks now, and the more recent impact of the Colonial Pipeline cyberattack has exacerbated the issue.
We re managing, said 24 Express owner Kamal Hossain, who has 15 locations across the area. We might have to go to depots in Montgomery or Niceville or Pascagoula, but we re still managing to get the product in.
Hossain said as an independent gas station, it can be difficult to compete with the bigger brands, and when it costs more to get deliveries from those farther locations, the prices can climb. But he still thinks it s important to keep supplying gas rather than shut down the pumps, if he can help it. ....

St. Johns County gas stations see hike in demand amid emergency

Vehicles crowded the Gate station on Mizell Road Wednesday morning as people waited to get gasoline. Some pumped gasoline into containers to load into their cars.
Sam McMahon, of St. Augustine, pumped fuel into a container that he planned to use for his boat. He came to the Gate after searching for gas elsewhere.
I drove by four of them and they all had bags over the pumps, he said.
Several gas stations along U.S. 1 were open and appeared to have normal amounts of traffic on Wednesday.
Jim Bria, of Orlando, stopped by the Mizell Road Gate station to fuel up on his way to Atlanta and waited about 10 minutes before getting to a pump, he said.  ....

What States Are Having Gas Shortages?
Fuel shortages have widened across the East Coast as consumers continue to panic buy amid the fallout from a cyberattack on the Colonial Pipeline last week by Russian ransomware group Darkside.
The 5,500-mile pipeline system transports more than 100 million gallons of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and heating oil per day, or roughly 45% of fuel consumed on the Eastern Seaboard between the Gulf Coast and the New York metro area.
Colonial Pipeline Co. said on Monday that it is aiming to substantially restore its system by the end of the week.

Don't panic! Closed pipeline likely won't impact Daytona fuel supplies

But will that move calm or further stoke public fears?
The problem isn t the pipeline, the problem is you panicking, wrote industry trade publication Convenience Store News in a Tweet late Tuesday.
Some parts of Volusia County weren t immune from that frenzy.
On Daytona Beach s beachside, tensions rose among motorists waiting in line to refuel their cars at the Sunoco gas station on the corner of A1A and Grandview Boulevard on Wednesday morning.
The reason: the decision by a customer at one of only two pumps that still had fuel to fill up not only his pickup, but also more than a half-dozen gas cans. ....
