<p>An app called All Aboard, designed to help people who are blind and visually imparied find their bus stops, was found in a new study to have a high success rate helping those indviduals find their bus stops. Existing GPS apps often lack the ability to help with micronavigation; they can get users in the area of their bus stop, but may lack the ability to get them the extra 30 to 50 feet to stand at their actual bus stop sign. This can place BVI individuals at risk for missing their public transportation. To address this problem, Mass Eye and Ear researchers designed an app trained by artificial intellingce to detect bus stop signs through a smartphone camera, and provide audio cues to let users know when they are approaching one.</p>
