It is a pleasure to write and share with you FP2030’s updates this month, as I take on the role of Interim Executive Director following Beth Schlachter’s departure at the end of April and ahead of the arrival of FP2030’s new Executive Director later this year. Beth’s great leadership over the past seven years has truly set us on a course to a successful FP2030 partnership. The transition to our new structure is well under way, led by the Transition Oversight Group, with the FP2030 secretariat and the Transition Management Team hard at work bringing it all together. ....

Building FP2030 – An Update on the FP2030 Transition Process

The Transition Oversight Group (TOG) has been working actively since February 2021, under the leadership of Chair Peter Ngure (Kenya) and Vice Chair Mariama Abdou Gado (Niger), in refining and moving forward the establishment of the new structure. The TOG is working across three workstreams – establishing the future governance structure, operationalizing the five regional hubs and recruiting a new Executive Director to lead the next stage of the partnership. TOG members are engaged in debating and improving the concept for FP2030 in the new decade, through close work with the Secretariat and the Transition Management Team.

RFIs were released in April to solicit expressions of interest from organisations interested in hosting the two Africa regional hubs covering North, West and Central Africa and East and Southern Africa. Building FP2030

Over the past eight years, governments, civil society, multilateral organizations, donors, the private sector and the research community, have come together around an ambitious goal: to enable 120 million additional women and girls to use modern contraception by 2020. Working together in partnership, much has been achieved, but more remains to be done.
The global family planning community agreed that the gains of the last eight years should be sustained by extending this pivotal partnership. Through a global consultation, stakeholders from around the world provided their input on the future of family planning. Together, the community created a shared vision for 2030 that builds on progress achieved to date, adapts the partnership in response to the lessons of the first eight years and positions us to achieve the future women and girls around the world are asking for. ....

We were so excited to launch the next iteration of our global partnership in late January during a series of events and webinars, and we’ll be sharing more information as 2021 – our year of transition – unfolds. In the coming weeks and months, we will be hosting a series of webinars and discussions about the FP2030 partnership, from how our measurement framework has adapted, to how you can make your own commitment. You can get a jump on this discussion by visiting our FP2030 Commitments site. We are continuing to add resources every day to help guide governments and other stakeholders as they develop their commitments. We also established a Transition Oversight Group (TOG) to oversee the transition of our governance and architecture, and to support the search for the next Executive Director – you can learn more about the TOG here.
