Ah, the great outdoors. The sun on your face, the wind at your back, and (hopefully) a space to explore with your furry pal. While a walk in the park might seem like the most obvious place in the world to bring a dog, most U.S. national parks have strict rules regarding if and where pets are allowed. Guidelines can vary greatly, so we’ve compiled a list of each one, ranking them from most to least dog-friendly, to help you plan where to take your next parks adventure with your canine companion.
First, a few universal guidelines: keep your pet on a six-foot (or shorter) leash at all times, always bag and throw away your dog’s waste, and never leave an animal unattended in a locked vehicle. ....

When to Book a National Park Camping Trip This Summer

With temperatures rising and the days getting longer, it’s hard not to daydream about summery nights under the stars particularly at an epic national park, if you can swing it.
In any other year, it can be highly competitive to nab a campsite in the middle of popular parks like Yosemite. Yet with national park visitation numbers still hitting record highs in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s more important than ever to plan ahead and book early especially as several parks have added new rules in the wake of the coronavirus: Grand Teton just moved its entire campground reservations system online for the first time ever; Yosemite and Rocky Mountain have had on-again-off-again requirements for day-use permits; and Acadia will be implementing a new permit for driving up to Cadillac Mountain this summer. ....

Betty Lou Whisenhunt was born April 24, 1933 in Bowie, Tx in Montague County to George Oliver Lyon and Jewel Gladys Lyon. She passed away in El Paso, Tx on January 13, 2021. She graduated from Levelland High School in Levelland, Tx.
Betty met the love of her life, Ray Whisenhunt, and they married July 5, 1950. This was the beginning of a 65 year journey together. They moved to Lamesa, TX in 1950, where later their son Danny was born. The family moved to Seminole, TX where they opened their first business, an auto parts store. Betty was employed by Pioneer National Gas company as a secretary but also helped with inventory and bookkeeping at the parts store. ....

County to provide more relief funding for small businesses

A second round of business relief funding for Chaves County small businesses outside the Roswell city limits is due to be dispersed starting Monday.
Interim County Manager Bill Williams said that $153,016 in grants to nine businesses in Dexter, Hagerman, Lake Arthur and unincorporated areas of the county have been awarded to cover COVID-19 related expenses and costs incurred from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021.
“We had more requests monetarily that we had funds to go out, so we had to reduce everything to 44%,” he said.
Williams said he personally visited small businesses in the county to encourage them to apply if they met the criteria. ....
