Kouboura Abakar Khatir Adam wants to become role model she didn't have

As a black Muslim girl who came to the U.S. from Sudan at age five, Kouboura Abakar Khatir Adam didn’t find many role models as moved into her school’s accelerated program in eighth grade, became interested in science/technology/engineering/math and started running track, she said.
But that didn’t stop Adam, a junior who is graduating from Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica a year early, or keep her from finding success. Kouboura came in third in her school’s science fair and first in the regional fair in her category in eighth grade. In high school, she found success in academics and sports, breaking multiple school running records. ....
