Fairhaven is now the first to market for legal marijuana sells to adults for casual use in the greater New Bedford area. This Bask location in Fairhaven was the first and only option for medical marijuana in the area for years. When the law was changed in 2016, Bask and the Town of Fairhaven worked together to expand the operation into a retail operation for all lawful consumers. ....
FAIRHAVEN Citing public uproar over social media, plans by the Health Board to enact emergency COVID regulations for farmers’ markets and other similar events, which would have an immediate impact on the Huttleston Marketplace, may not happen after all. A recent Board of Health meeting saw a continuance of the debate of further regulating the Huttleston Marketplace. At previous meetings the board and the Tourism Director, Christopher Richard, discussed whether food prepared on-site should be allowed and whether the marketplace should be classified as an event, which would put greater restrictions in place. Richard couldn’t make the Feb. 3 meeting as he told the board through email he had a prior engagement. ....
A Needham-based developer is proposing 62 apartments for active seniors 55+ at the historic Rogers School in Fairhaven. The majority of the units would be deemed affordable. Arch Communities, LLC on Jan 11 was the sole respondent to an RFP put out by the town of Fairhaven to redevelop the former school property, which has been vacant since 2013. The Rogers School, located in Fairhaven village at 100 Pleasant St., was built in 1885 as a gift to Fairhaven from industrialist Henry Huttleston Rogers. Plans for the Residences at Rogers School show the school preserved and redeveloped with eight apartments in the main building. An outdated addition would be torn down and a new addition constructed. The proposal describes open-design apartments with high ceilings and an abundance of natural light enjoyed through oversized windows. Community amenities would include a large community room with a kitchen that opens onto an outside patio. Parking would be provided for 78 cars. ....
