Chisholm is a father of two Rochester Memorial School students and the Executive Director of Tri-Town Against Racism. FAIRHAVEN The group seeking to recall Board of Selectmen Chair Daniel Freitas is proclaiming a victory after the town’s Board of Registrars certified that the petition exceeded the amount of signatures required to pass. Signatures from 20% of the town’s registered voters, or 2,384 signatures, were required for the recall petition to pass. According to notice issued on May 3 and signed by the Registrars Office and Town Clerk Carolyn Hurley, 2,521 signatures were verified. In response, Freitas is calling for an investigation into the validity of the petition. Attorney Ernest Horn, representing Freitas, said Freitas only received a copy of the petition the day after the certification. Horn is filing for a new review by the Town Clerk. The reasoning, according to Horn, are the appearance of “significant discrepancies” in the petition. ....

Wicked Local Acton has adopted inclusive, gender-neutral terms for its main executive board. The change goes in effect immediately. According to a release, residents at a special Town Meeting in September 2020, decided on a voice vote to amend the Town Charter, changing references from “Board of Selectmen” to “Select Board.” That vote also authorized changing all references of “Selectmen” to “Members.” The Town Meeting vote was codified at the annual town election in April 1,630-380. The vote allowed the town to begin using the terms “Select Board” and Members without delay. The name change appropriately represents the changed times and in no way should diminish the service of the men and women who served Acton dating back to 1735, Select Board Chair Jon Benson said. ....
