In the city of Fort Myers, each member of the city council has $5,000 in discretionary funds through which public groups can receive donations of city funding for worthy programs. This week, Councilman Liston Bochette questioned whether the council does a good enough job of vetting distribution of the funds, recalling his disappointment with one group he chose to fund during his prior term. I had distributed some discretionary funds and was dissatisfied by the lack of reports I got back on how that money was used, Bochette said.
