vessel started off with 96 hours of oxygen. that of course is not a perfect science so what factors are at play here when passengers, and there are five of them in this small space, are all breathing this air? there are multiple factors in play any time people are trying to survive an enclosed environment. the biggest one and the one most concerning to me is that the factor that actually limits people s survival in a scenario like this is carbon monoxide not oxygen so the fact the 96 hours of oxygen keeps being cited is a little alarming because there are issues necessary to design a system like this for survival under water. some of the factors that would really make a difference in a case like this, the biggest one
actually voiced those concerns directly to oegsgate s ceo stockton russian who is missing, one of the five people missing on that vessel. and he said the two of them agreed to disagree. we know that oceangate in a 2019 blog post defended their decision to not class this vessel, saying that, look, it could take years. it could stifle innovation and in the end, the safety benefits really didn t outweigh what it could cost them from an innovation standpoint. is the titan, the missing submersible, is it subject to any regulations by any government? the short answer from the experts we spoke with is no. it is the wild west. that s why this 2018 letter was so direct and urgent. the author felt like they were really just breaking industry standards that all other submersible companies were following. that author told me, there were only ten submarines in the world
