Cycle tour exposes Adani s destruction of Country

“It s distressing to see the change in landscape. We don’t know what damage the mine will do to our sacred Doongmabulla Springs. That s why we re here to expose Adani s destruction of Country,” MacAvoy said. The tour had previously stopped at a number of significant sites to the Wangan and Jagalingou people, and camped at “Dalgayu Dina”, the site on Adani’s pastoral lease where McAvoy and others have built a coroboree ground and campsite. “Adani has in the past tried to evict us from our own land, and when we resisted that they tried to grant permission only to Wangan and Jagalingou people, he said.

Anti-coal protesters will take part in a Tour De Carmichael 105km bicycle ride to a mine site in Central Queensland in a show of opposition to the project. More than 100 cyclists left the Gregory Highway on Tuesday morning to begin their ride to the Carmichael mine site. In a statement, event organisers said the next five days of their journey would include a guided tour of Wangan and Jagalingou country with Coedie McAvoy, as well as passing Bravus Mining and Resources’ Carmichael mine site. But a Bravus spokeswoman has slammed the group for “putting their own safety and that of our workers at risk”.

A group of Wangan and Jagalingou Traditional Owners opposed to a controversial coal mine in central Queensland are embarking on a 5-day bike ride, to draw attention to the damage they say is being done on their Country. About 100 cyclists are taking part in the Tour De Carmichael, a 105 kilometre guided ride from the Gregory Highway to Adani’s Carmichael mine site. Along the way, participants will visit a number of significant sites, including Twin Hills and the Belyando River, and learn about Wangan and Jagalingou’s stories, culture and totems.
