16th February 2021 The plot in the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) versus Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) legal fees battle thickens as BDP lawyers now move to attach the property of their UDC counterparts. Following weeks of chasing down evasive UDC petitioners for the P565, 000 legal bill BDP lawyers Bogopa , Manewe, Tobedza & Co have now written letters of demand to law firms Ramaotwana Attorneys and Toteng & Company demanding payments of P175, 000 and P200, 000 respectively in respect of bonds made in support of their clients (UDC petitioners). Sunday Standard learns the BDP lawyers make reference to Court of Appeal (CoA) costs in the sum of P565, 000 which the petitioners had undertaken to have paid by September 16, 2020.It is against the failure by the 15 petitioners to honour the agreement that the BDP demand the funds from their lawyers following the two law firms’ Bond for Security of Costs filed before the appeal in January 2020.
