Back out there today? the plan is to be back out there again. i was one of those people that was very skeptical afterwards whether i go back out again or not. i think i would be regretting the decision if i didn t go back out this year. what are the purposes of live tornado tracking on tv? i remember when i got to meet you was the day after the devastating tornado in joplin, missouri, you were one of the first reporters on the scene because you were tracking that storm when it happened. when we talked the next day, you said part of the purpose of this coverage is to entertain, the other part is to inform. is that fair, that there s this balance between both? i think there is a balance between both. there are so many people out there that are weather enthusiasts, weather is their hobby, and they enjoy seeing what mother nature can do. the feedback we ve gotten, people are learning a lot about what we do out there. they re learning about the structure of storms, they re learning ho ....

When i first heard stanton i thought i can t believe that that small town getting the start of this and going over towards wayne. a lot of damage. a lot of damage for a very small town. obviously everybody there knows everybody and is impacted like that. the big tornado tracking on the ground for quite a while. eventually they say 17 tornadoes reported. same tornado continuing to drop down through the area. tracked from just around the nor fork, area which is where stanton is over towards wayne and sioux city and parts of iowa. today this entire i should say northwestern parts of iowa. today this storm pulls off towards the east and threat from severe weather from parts of wisconsin all the way down through the mid mississippi river valley. parts of the ohio river valley and then down towards arkansas. i think more we re talking about the threat for some strong winds and some hail but we can t rule out an isolated tornado. this gives you the picture. you see these pictures? 90 degree ....

Is now west of me. rapidly rotating. should have a code ton momentarily. a visible cloud on i-40. a new developing tornado tracking down i-40. so in the air, just insane rotation around me. tornadoes rain wrapped. a number of tornadoes. a number of people injured. i m hearing some on the westbound bad, cars being flipped and 18 wheelers flipped. personal friends of mine have been injured. not going say the names right now because of family members. we have been tracking the tornadoes as they go through oklahoma city. fall scale tornadoes right now in oklahoma city, tulsa on up toward the st. louis area. tracks southeast. and what is going to happen now as we get towards sunset is what we call the low level jets or are rick you can talk about that but the winds aloft are going to start intensifying so ....

the national and louisville. let s bring in chad myers at the cnn atlanta center. what is the latest? it goes all the way from illinois all the way down to georgia, alabama, as far west as louisiana and far north as virginia. on the backside, it s snowing up in squad cities. that s not atypical. you need cold air to clash. a couple areas still on the ground, to the north of chattanooga by bradley and north of cleveland in tennessee. and then another couple storms here popping up, not that far from cape girardo. that is harrisburg, illinois. right in the middle of a new tornado watch. that town that got hit so hard a couple of days ago. all of this area is under severe weather today. there will be a severe thunderstorm watch, tornado watch, and many warnings going through the night and probably into 10:00, 11:00 tonight. that means, keep it tuned here to cnn. chad will take the lead on this one. we ll keep a close eye around the country. in other news, a shocking exa ....

him minutes ago. okay. we re going to stand by for that. and chad myers, tell me where the storm is now. ashleigh and jeff were on the same road. they were on the same road together? going different directions. ashleigh is going toward st. louis, jeff is to the west driving toward the tornado. they crossed each other, obviously didn t see each other because it s raining so hard. but they went the opposite direction. jeff is following that storm it did some damage near bird s eye, it had to, indiana. but there is an even larger tornado that i m very worried about it. it s to the northwest of louisville by maybe 30 miles but it is on the ground doing damage. new peak in indiana is in the way of this tornado. if you know anybody in that area, they just need to take cover. and these now are so big that you don t have to wait. if you see a dark cloud literally, you know a storm is coming your way, don t wait for the weather service to put out a warning. just take you ....
