teams with he has to deal with the tornado devastation back here at home. i m wolf blitzer and you re in the situation room. it s been almost 24 hours since the people of joplin, missouri hid in their homes as the tornado tore through their city. officials say 116 people were killed and many more injured. this makes this storm tied for the second deadliest twister. the toll is expected to climb as one resident puts it. everybody s going to know people who are dead. a massive rescue operations under way that has been hampered by more bad weather. many pipes are damaged. despite the obstacles of success today, the governor says that there were seven rescues. in some cases, entire families were pulled from the rubble alive. at least 2,000 buildings are damaged, including one of the city s two hospitals. brian todd is joining us from outside of that hospital. he s joining us live now. brian? reporter: wolf, as you can see, we re getting another thunderstorm. they ha ....
It looks like a bomb went off and the roof of the tractor supply store completely torn up and, that is where it hit first and the manager of the lowe s department store saw the tornado there at the 200 yard warning of the tornado heading towards them and was able to get the people into a safe spot within the store. eric: that is amazing, so chilling when you think of the manager, could actually see the tornado, right across and then, have the presence of mind to shepard everybody into a safe spot. rick: all of us wonder, what would we do if we had a split-second to make a decision and he probably had, he said, 60 seconds from the title the tornado was at that store he saw across the way and a wide tornado, not a small one and he said it was 2 to 300 yards wide heading towards them and to make the quick decision and be able to get people into the right spot in the store, it is an amazing story and everybody in ....
