They are tall, so the potential to have a tornado that s over a mile wide. leaving that path of destruction is very real with these larger supercell threats, so here s our threats for today . this is the latest information just updated from the storm prediction center. that is a slight risk where you see that shading of yellow basically extends from outside of the chicago suburbs all the way to the gulf coast, but i m highlighting these areas across central illinois. as well as central texas. that s where we have our greatest probability of tornadic activity today, the main threat being large hail and damaging winds, but we cannot rule out a tornado. we know these storms have already produced tornadic supercells and currently the radar quiet, but i think once we once we start to destabilize the atmosphere, get that sunshine. we start to make things a little bit more volatile in the atmosphere, and we ll see those thunderstorms pop up. once again today, sara will be watching and we will ....

Mark, how far south of 62 are you right now? mike, i think we re just about full south here. we ve got rain coming in on me, so it s difficult to tell if it s still in contact with the ground, but it s so dark. that s what we re dealing with. it s so dark. in the middle of these tornadic supercells. i do have definition off to the north and east. i can almost see all the way underneath it. i m not for sure that we ve got a funnel in contact with the ground, but the winds are picking up just a little bit here, as we get closer to the situation. it does have a lot of rapid rain with it. bottom line is, folks, it s a long track system so far [ inaudible ] we re going to break away from kfor for a moment. ....

It s hard to say. i hate to speculate. i m guessing this is about an ef-3 if i had to guess, and that tells us just how strong the winds were associated with this. we don t know the extent of the path of this. we don t know how wide it was, but there certainly were tornadic supercells reported on doppler radar that the local st. louis meteorologists at the tv stations and the weather service did spot. there was a warning issued at 7:36 p.m., that is central time, at 7:56 they issued another tornado warning. and at about 8:15 p.m. is when we think that this tornado touched down. all right. so, and, again, another news director was telling us a little earlier here on the air that, in fact, they knew this storm was coming, they were getting people prepared, and it sounded like people the more the warning, the better. but it sounded like they did get some warning. and maybe that s why at this point, folks, we don t have ....
