A person familiar with the matter said Rayner will stay on in her role as deputy leader but Starmer is now looking to appoint a new chair of the party.

The BBC said results so far suggested Sturgeon’s Scottish National Party will fall just short of the target of 65 seats in the Edinburgh parliament. But with a strong result for the pro-independence Green Party, there will be a majority in the legislature in favor of splitting away from the rest of the U.K. when all the results are in, the BBC said.
