Carlo Ancelotti was more forceful than usual in his criticism of Everton s performance after yet another home defeat, this time to Aston Villa.
Anwar El Ghazi struck an 80th-minute winner that condemned the Blues to their seventh home defeat of the Premier League season after Dominic Calvert-Lewin had helped Everton recover from a poor start by cancelling out Ollie Watkins s opener.
With the match finely balanced in the second half, the hosts had the chance to go for the jugular and secure three points that would have moved them into the top six for the time being but they lacked drive and inspiration for much of the contest. ....

Solid performances all round. I was particularly impressed by Iwobi and Godfrey. Allan had a good game to as did Sigurdsson. Unimpressed by the referee, Jon Moss, who was particularly one-sided towards Chelsea IMO.
Valuable scalp and priceless 3 points.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. When you play Sigurdsson in his natural position as a number 10 hes a different player.

I thought Moss for once did ok. Let the game flow. Holgate and Godfrey bring a lot of pace and energy to the ream and Iwobi is beginning to look as if he might be a player. ....

2,000 Everton fans were involved in a massive moment of the club s long and storied history on Saturday evening.
After being forced away from supporting their side in person for nine months, or 287 days to be precise, supporters were finally allowed back inside Goodison Park once again.
It was wildly different to what any of them would have experienced before. No pre-match pints in a packed Winslow, no concourses full of people anticipating the game ahead.
But, the players on the pitch were delighted to see them back. Carlo Ancelotti on the touchline had a huge smile on his face as he was able to wave at supporters once again before kick off. ....
