Kings of Leon collect their sixth Number 1 on this week’s Official Irish Albums Chart with When You See Yourself. The Nashville group’s eighth studio album was the most purchased album of the week in Ireland on CD, vinyl and download, joining Because of the Times (2007), Only By The Night (2008), Come Around Sundown (2010), Mechanical Bull (2013), and Walls (2016) as chart-topping records on Irish soil. In doing so, Kings of Leon match Radiohead as the international group with the most Irish Number 1 albums of the millennium, picking up a sextet of Number 1s since 2000. The overall group with the most are Westlife, with 11 scored in the past two decades. ....
Joel Corry, RAYE & David Guetta’s new collaboration BED is the highest new entry on this week’s Official Irish Singles Chart. Hitmaker Joel – behind the most popular song released in 2020 with the Irish public Head & Heart – picks up his fourth Top 20 single in Ireland with BED, which debuts at Number 15. His previous singles Head & Heart, Lonely and Sorry all eventually reached the Top 3. BED marks British singer-songwriter Raye’s eighth Top 50 hit and French producer David Guetta’s 39 th. At the top of the chart, Olivia Rodrigo has avoided a parking ticket and holds at Number 1 for an eighth week with Drivers License. ....

The record is a confidently slick affair, a 14 track, feature-less set that strikes a clever balance between sounding both joyously hopeful and cooly serene while nodding to the current Afrobeats superstars. Its current single, Focus, has seen his sound reach new territories, recently becoming his first headline entry on the UK s Official Afrobeats Chart. ....
Getting to Number 1 is no easy feat, and holding on to the top spot is a tough task. Returning to the summit, well, that is even more difficult. Rebounding back to Number 1 on multiple occasions? It is pretty much unheard of. In modern Irish chart history, just three songs have enjoyed three or more separate stints at Number 1, with just one hitting Number 1 on four different occasions. So what qualities make a song possess that magic, bounce-back ability? In the case of these three history makers, they’re all instantly catchy and are related to a popular TV show or film, putting the stars behind them in the eyes of wider audiences than perhaps they would have without that association. ....
