Samoa's caretaker PM lashes out at young female lawyers


Samoa s caretaker prime minister has lashed out at young female lawyers in the country calling them stupid, cheeky and disrespectful.
Speaking during his weekly programme on TV3, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi described the lawyers as childish, critised their dress code in court and lack of respect for the country s head of state.
The
Samoa Observer reports Tuilaepa s comments come after the Samoa Law Society s submission to an Appeal Court hearing opposing his position that only the head of state had the power to convene parliament.
Tuilaepa said they needed to go back and read the constitution more carefully and they should show more respect for the president. ....

Students will have to wait to get home
The Solomon Islands government is holding back on repatriating its students from Fiji after more of them tested positive for Covid-19.
In a national address, prime minister Manasseh Sogavare, said 22 students and dependents have so far tested positive for the virus.
The Fijian authorities said 13 of those are active cases, which Mr Sogavare describes as extremely worrying.
He said there were 850 Solomon Islanders studying in Fiji, just over 50 of whom had graduated and were ready to return home.
But the Prime minister also said Fijian health officials are unsure when it will be safe to do so. ....

Samoa caretaker Govt loses fifth seat in petitions


Samoa s caretaker government has lost another electoral seat in the latest petition hearings this morning.
The Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) has now lost a total of five seats and holds 20 compared to the election winning FAST party s 26.

Two cases were heard today, with another deferred until tomorrow.
Today s case against the Faatuatua I le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party s Gagaemauga No 1 seat holder and Deputy Prime Minister-elect Tuala Tevaga Ponifasio was settled amicably, and withdrawn.
RNZ Pacific s correspondent in Samoa, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia, says the other was withdrawn but the seat will be contested again. ....
