It’s hard to believe that it is just over three months since President Donald Trump left office – and the world breathed a collective sigh of relief. His rollercoaster presidency was sometimes frustrating, other times entertaining – but always unpredictable. Some groups however we singled out for an ongoing attack right throughout President Trump’s four year term. One such group was the USA’s Trans community.
Tony Zosherafatain began directing and producing films in 2012 after realizing that there weren’t many films focussed on Trans stories. As a Trans man, he knew what challenges invisibility brings. His latest documentary project – a series called Trans in Trumpland – took him into the US states with the worst transphobia under President Donald Trump, to try and find out what was driving this hate. ....

"Trans in Trumpland" Shows Life for Trans People in Red States

Trans in Trumpland is a new four-part docuseries directed by Tony Zosherafatain about trans people living in red states during Donald Trump s presidency, told through a road trip across parts of America, specifically Idaho, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas.
“The series’ subjects run the intersectional gamut, from 13-year-old Ash in North Carolina, home to the infamously discriminatory ‘bathroom ban,’ disallowing trans people from using the bathroom of their true gender, to Shane from Idaho; a Native American Army veteran who speaks out against the Trump administration’s trans military ban,” the film’s website states.
Zosherafatain started developing the idea for the docuseries as soon as Trump took office in 2017. “It started the very first day that Trump took office.
