A postal worker explained, “We must not stop at the end of the vote. This is the beginning of a rank-and-file movement. The fact we exist and are here is enough to unsettle the bureaucrats.”
Tony Robson emphasised that voting No was not enough. The problem of removing the union bureaucracy had to be tackled directly. This was the importance of the PWRFC’s fight for rank-and-file committees on the shop floor.
Speakers addressed the Communication Workers Union (CWU)’s second postponement of the ballot on its sellout agreement with Royal Mail to prevent a crushing NO vote.
“To defeat this line-up requires more than a No vote”, Robson insisted. A genuine rank-and-file insurgency must challenge the profit dictates of Royal Mail shareholders.
