Photo / File Rotorua Daily Post Your article, (News, May 6) says the cost of removing the big gum trees from in front of the quarantine hotel Rydges is being shared by the hotel and Rotorua Lakes Council. Letters to the editor: Two hours of free parking is not enough time

Letters to the editor: Two hours of free parking is not enough time 21 Jan, 2021 08:00 PM 2 minutes to read Bay of Plenty Times In the Bay of Plenty Times (January 14), a story compared money collected in parking fees. My question is why do the comparisons only go to June 2020, surely it is only a push of a computer button to go up to December 2020. Two hours of free parking is not enough time to go to movies and have lunch. I would have thought that the first two hours in parking building would be free but no, fees apply from the minute you enter car parking building.

Letters to the editor: Calgary s rubbish system similar to Tauranga s

Letters to the editor: Calgary s rubbish system similar to Tauranga s 13 Jan, 2021 08:00 PM 2 minutes to read Calgary s rubbish service is more like Tauranga s says a reader. Photo / File Bay of Plenty Times I was interested to read Tony Fellingham s letter on January 12 where he argues a waste collection system like that used in Calgary, Canada would be more appropriate for Tauranga than the system proposed by Tauranga City Council. Calgary does have a well-run waste system that sees it ranked as one of the world s cleanest cities. But it seems things have changed since Tony lived there. Calgary now runs a waste collection system virtually identical to that proposed by Tauranga City Council.

Letters to the editor: One-size-fits-all rubbish policy dismays

Letters to the editor: One-size-fits-all rubbish policy dismays 11 Jan, 2021 07:00 PM 3 minutes to read A variety of Tauranga City Council rubbish bins and recycling bins. Photo / File Bay of Plenty Times I m dismayed by the autocratic one-size-fits-all rubbish policy adopted by Tauranga City Council. It is in such contrast to what I experienced during my time living in Calgary, Canada, whereby this same issue was open for full public consultation. The outcome was an inexpensive, creatively agreed user-involved system without household bins. Throughout the city, large colour-coded containers were permanently placed in every supermarket parking lot and other public parking areas.
