The Porter County Park Board hopes to make a new 63.5-acre park available in Kouts by next spring. Named Aukiki Park through a naming contest in Porter County schools in 2017, the park, which will be located on Indiana 49, has been a dream since the Park Board purchased the property in 2014.
New Porter County Auditor Karen Martin received unanimous approval from the Porter County Board of Commissioners to enter into a contract with Cender Dalton Municipal Advisors of Merrillville. While surrounding counties use the same firm, and Martin expects the bulk of the work to be focused on preparing reports on an as-needed basis, it is work the previous administration performed fully in-house for the past eight years.
