Live Shows Resume as Laguna Beach Music Festival Kicks Off
Acclaimed American composer and pianist Conrad Tao will lead the 2021 Laguna Beach Music Festival as artistic director with live, in-person performances through May 16 at the Irvine Barclay Theatre.
The festival is co-presented by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and Laguna Beach Live. It marks the long-anticipated return to public performances since the pandemic restrictions halted live shows more than a year ago.
“This year’s festival occurs during an ‘anything but normal’ time, yet our goal is to ensure that the music that we’ve all missed, more than anything, is front and center,” Tommy Phillips, Philharmonic Society of Orange County’s president and artistic director, told The Epoch times via email. ....

The AJT featured an picture entitled âCircus comes to town May 1.â Pretty girls and funny clowns are the frosting for the circus cake. The D.B. Wharton Circus comes to Newland Saturday, May 1, to present performances afternoon and evening all under the Big Top at the Showgrounds in Newland. The circus is sponsored by Newland Volunteer Fire Department. Performances will start promptly at 2 and 8 p.m. Doors will open one hour earlier to allow time to visit the big circus sideshow and see the animals.The fast-moving performances run 1.5 hours and feature acrobats, amazing trampoline somersaults, daring equilibrists, dexterous jugglers, beautifully trained dogs and ponies, educated llamas from South America, a baffling magical display, a squad of hilarious clowns and many other unusual attractions. National Symphony Orchestra violinist Nurit Bar-Josef shifting gears for Mainly Mozart drive-in concert debut

When Nurit Bar-Josef performs four Mainly Mozart Festival of Orchestras drive-in concerts this week at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, it will mark several firsts for the accomplished violinist.
It will be the first time the National Symphony Orchestra concertmaster has been to San Diego, the first time she has performed a drive-in concert
and the first time she and members of her orchestra have teamed for performances with members of New York’s Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, whose concertmaster is Del Mar native David Chan.
Bar-Josef will be one of the featured soloists for Thursday’s performance of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins in B minor and the lone soloist for Saturday’s performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending. She will return here in June for five Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra concerts. They will be held outdoors, in a non-drive-in format, at a yet to be disclosed San Diego County location. ....

A group fighting to save three buildings used by fishermen for centuries from potential development has raised more than £100,000.
The buildings at Cadgwith Cove, Cornwall, are used to store equipment and process catches.
One building, the Winch House, is up for sale and Grade Ruan Parish Council has been offered first refusal.
Fisherman Tommy Phillips said if the buildings went, so would the fishing industry in the cove.
He said: If we don t manage to secure these buildings, they are under threat if they get into the wrong hands. ....
