The new competition should have its showpiece game on All-Ireland final day, reckons McConville
The GAA should have scheduled the Tailteann Cup decider on the same day as the All-Ireland football final, says Oisín McConville.
The details of the new competition for Division 3 and 4 teams, who do not reach their provincial final, were released by the GAA yesterday.
It also proposed that counties who have won the previous year s provincial crowns go into the Sam Maguire qualifiers, regardless of whether or not they are in the bottom two divisions.
While McConville believes that the GAA has done extremely well to complete this year s championships and deliver a plan for 2021, he said it has missed a trick in the timing of the final, which will be played as a curtain-raiser to an All-Ireland hurling semi-final on 26/27 June. ....
