Senior services continue despite pandemic

The Senior Advisory Committee met via Zoom on Tuesday, Feb. 16 to continue discussions on the current programs and services available to the island’s seniors.
During the Senior Advisory Committee’s meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 16, Senior Coordinator Gloria Redlich updated the committee on the current programs and services available for the senior population on the island. Similar to many other organizations and groups that have had to adjust their programs and schedules to follow Covid-19 health regulations and protocols, SAC has had to make some adjustments.
“We, at SAC, and island seniors in general, have continued to navigate life under Covid-19 and on the whole we have done so patiently. By and large, we have followed state guidelines – masking, distancing and for the most part keeping a low profile,” said Redlich. ....

Sharing life: BIMC staffer donates kidney to family member

Tom Hobin, the physical therapist at the Block Island Medical Center, had been considering donating a kidney for quite some time to an individual in need, but had no idea that his kidney would be a match with a close family relative.
“I learned from my step-daughter Alexia Pettit that her father-in-law needed a transplant. The father-in-law [Doug Courtemanche] was on the list to get one. We found out over a year ago, when I started the process of looking into it,” said Hobin. ....
