Reynolds has proposed investing $150 million each of the next three years to establish affordable high-speed broadband access, the need for which has been made increasingly apparent by the pandemic, throughout Iowa by 2025. Addressing a group of more than a dozen community and business leaders gathered in a conference room of the Greater Burlington Partnership, Reynolds said the $450 million in state funding combined with private sector funds and grant money made available through the Federal Communications Commission gives us a real opportunity to scale and have the largest broadband buildout in the country if we re able to get done what we re trying to do with this aggressive investment. ....

County resident Linda Schneider attended the supervisors regular weekly meeting to ask the supervisors to help her get her grandson a human papillomavirus inoculation. While HPV is a sexually transmitted disease, the Centers for Disease Control recommends vaccinating children sooner rather than later to protect them long before they are exposed to the virus. Schneider had e-mailed Des Moines County Public Health Administrator Christa Poggemiller saying she d called Poggemiller s office on Friday and was told HPV vaccination was now by appointment only. ....
The Hawk Eye The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors discussed the Department of Human Services Thursday, focusing on how much money the department spends versus how much it asks for every year at budget time. During the budget meeting, supervisors noted that DHS regularly does not spend their entire budget yet continues to request the same amount of money. If you don t need it, we don t have to levy for it, said Supervisor Tom Broeker. Des Moines County is one of 10 counties that pay for the Eastern Iowa Service Area for DHS. DHS is one of a handful of organizations for which the county provides funding without having any control over the budget. ....
