National Chocolate Chip Day is coming up this Saturday, May 15 – but, seriously, do we need a special day to recognize such a delicious occasion?
Well, the history of the chocolate chip cookie is just as delightful and delicious as the cookie itself: Back in the late 1930s, famous chef and baker Ruth Graves Wakefield started experimenting with a traditional cookie recipe to serve to the guests at the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts that she and her husband owned. Wakefield added chopped up pieces of a Nestle semi-sweet chocolate bar to her traditional cookie dough, resulting in the invention of the famous Toll ....
