New Kensington Council has denied a nonprofit’s request to use an office building on Industrial Boulevard for its outpatient mental health and substance abuse counseling services.
Southwest Behavioral Care, an affiliate of Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services, sought the city’s permission to use the vacant building at 400 Industrial Blvd., about a half-mile away from its current offices at 408 Eighth St. ....

New Kensington Council approves liquor license transfer to former Kings building

New Kensington Council has approved a request from Bridged Hospitality Group to transfer its liquor license for Around Back Restaurant and Bar from Wildlife Lodge Road in Lower Burrell to the former Kings restaurant on Leechburg Road in New Kensington.

New Kensington Council approved a liquor license transfer for a Lower Burrell restaurant planning to move into the former Kings restaurant in the city.
Council approved the request from Bridged Hospitality Group during its meeting Monday following a public hearing. Bridged Hospitality owns the Around Back Restaurant & Bar, currently on Wildlife Lodge Road in Lower Burrell. ....

New Kensington Council postponed voting on a nonprofit’s proposed use of an office building for its outpatient mental health and substance abuse services Monday after a few neighbors raised concerns.
The new location would give the agency more space and allow it to add services for opiate-related substance abuse, said Cheryld Emala, chief operating officer of Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services. ....

County Hauling fires 2 after thefts from New Kensington residents

New Kensington’s garbage hauler fired two employees after residents reported thefts of a package and Christmas lights, the company and city officials confirmed Thursday.
It makes for a troubling start for the new one-year contract between New Kensington and County Hauling, which council approved in December despite past concerns over the company’s service.
“In my opinion, this is 100% completely unacceptable,” Councilman Todd Mentecki said. “I’m hoping this is an isolated incident.”
City Clerk Dennis Scarpiniti said a resident reported a County Hauling employee took a package from their front porch last week. Christmas lights were taken in another incident. ....
