Many top sponsors are expressing understanding for the move amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nippon Life Insurance Co. said it was “a decision to host a safe and secure games.”
More than 60 Japanese companies together paid a record of more than $3 billion to sponsor the Tokyo Games, an event most Japanese now want canceled or delayed again.
While a decision on spectators has yet to be made, the agency said it started selling the packages given the dwindling number of days left before the games begin on July 23.
