Emirates News Agency - Bahraini delegation introduced to the UAE's Marking Tobacco and Tobacco Products Scheme

ABU DHABI, 10th April, 2022 (WAM) An official delegation from the Kingdom of Bahrain was briefed on the UAE’s Marking Tobacco and Tobacco Products Scheme. The system, which the Federal Tax Authority enforces, enables the tracking of tobacco products electronically through Digital Tax Stamps in order to combat tax evasion, protect consumers from commercial fraud, prevent illegal and nonconforming products from being sold in local markets, and ensure the collection of taxes due on all tobacco products traded in the country.

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) announced on Monday that the total value of tax liabilities related to the seizures performed during inspection campaigns reached Dhs2.74 million.
The necessary legal measures have been implemented on violators to ensure that violations are not repeated.
The Authority revealed on Monday that the field visits carried out during January and February resulted in the discovery of more than 14 thousand kilograms of water pipe tobacco were seized in addition to 897 packages of electrically heated cigarettes not bearing a digital tax stamp. ....

UAE seizes goods worth Dh192 million over tax violations

The seized goods were subject to excise tax.
The authority seized 9.4 million packs of cigarettes that didn t carry the digital tax stamps; 14,000kg of Hookah tobacco products; and more than 803,000 packets of other selective goods, including soft, energy and sweetened drinks; electronic smoking devices and tools and liquids used in them.

The products were seized during inspection campaigns in cooperation with the departments of economic development and private sector players.
The campaign is aimed at strengthening market inspections and also ensure compliance with legislation and tax procedures.
