to be had here, but that it should be respectful on both sides. john. all right. lauren fox for us on capitol hill. joining us now is rachel bade, washington post congressional reporter and cnn political analyst. rachel, you have some terrific color from inside this democratic cause caucus meeting and it does appear there are real fissures among the members. democrats kicked off the year strong. they stuck together through the shutdown fight. pelosi was able to rally the troops and get the president to cave when it coame to his borde wall. but ever since then we ve seen them really struggling as they get up to speed with their new power and we re seeing these fractures in the caucus. some folks on the far left slashing with some of the more moderate members, and it s been a mess. it came to a head yesterday morning in a really contentious caucus meeting with people started basically scolding their colleagues for tweeting each other.
as of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as president of the united states man, that just filled the air with ice crystals like that breath mint commercial number two, from politico, president nancy pelosi, who runs the country now, said a second former white house official. we went from indefinite shutdown to down payment, to cave, al within a span of 24 hours. that official said that trump s core supporters and former aides are furious and melting down jonathan, when that quote comes from somebody on the home team, you got troubles. absolutely, brian it s totally right this is a complete capitulation there should be some sort of visual representation to the walls of jericho falling down. like president trump s border wall today this is a cave by the president.
this? this is a campaign promise that president trump put before the electorate. shepard: actually, it s not a promi promise. the promise is the mexicans will pay for it. this is not a way to resolved border security. a lot of things that you can do than building a wall first. you have to ask yourself, what is in the political interests of nancy pelosi to cave at this point. shepard: you can t find a political interest there. the only interest would be if the public started to blame her or blame her party. thus far by a wide margin, all the polls that i ve read have deferred to you. same here. shepard: suggest the white house is getting the blame. i guess it s because people haven t forgotten that the president sat there with the leaders, nancy pelosi and chuck schumer and said i ll carry the mantel, i ll wear this proudly, i ll close down the government and i won t blame you for it.
