New Illinois law to help save lives by removing barriers to kidney transplants

Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed Medicaid legislation into law July 6 that immediately opens Medicaid eligibility to uninsured state residents in need of kidney transplants providing them equitable access to lifesaving surgeries.
Praising the passage and the governor s signature of Senate Bill 2294 are Illinois organ donation and health equity advocates including Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network officials, Illinois Transplant Fund leadership, Rep. Elizabeth Hernandez (D-Cicero) and Sen. Omar Aquino (D-Chicago).

Today s action will save lives by creating equitable access to health care and removing barriers that prevent Illinois residents from receiving the kidney transplants they so desperately need, Hernandez said. Illinois now provides these patients a fair chance at receiving transplants and returning to productive lives ....

Ann Arbor-based global eye bank network Eversight has named Diane Hollingsworth president and CEO.
Hollingsworth, executive vice president of external relations for the nonprofit, had served as interim president and CEO since March 5 while a national search for a new top executive was underway.
She succeeds David Bosch, who had served as president since 2018 and was named CEO in 2019. He left in March to become chief marketing and communications officer for Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network in Illinois.
Hollingworthjoined Eversight in 2010 as executive director for eye bank operations and administration in Illinois. She went on to serve as vice president of partner relations before taking on her most recent role. ....

Edward-Elmhurst Health urges community to register as organ donors

During National Donate Life Month in April, Edward-Elmhurst Health is encouraging members of the community to register at www.registerme.org/EEHealth as organ, eye and tissue donors and to honor those that have saved lives through the gift of donation.
Edward-Elmhurst s request is part of its participation with Gift of Hope in the national Hospital Organ Donation Campaign.

This initiative, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Health Resources and Services Administration, runs through April 30.
The program s goal is to help expand awareness about the benefits of organ and tissue donation and increase donor registration. Since the program s inception in 2011, the campaign has generated more than 552,000 donor registrations. ....

Edward-Elmhurst Health has joined Gift of Hope in the Hospital Organ Donation Campaign.
The purpose of this initiative, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in collaboration with Gift of Hope, is to expand awareness about the benefits of organ and tissue donation and increase donor registration.
There are more than 112,000 people in the U.S. who are waiting for an organ transplant. While 95% of U.S. adults support organ donation, only 58% are registered as donors.

Discover might open call center in former Chatham Target store, hire 1,000 workers

Discover Financial Services is considering whether to convert a former Target store into a call center with 1,000 jobs, potentially delivering a big economic win to the South Side after a year of setbacks.
A source confirmed Monday that Riverwoods-based Discover is in late-stage negotiations on a lease of the vacant store at 8560 S. Cottage Grove Ave. The deal with the credit card company could result in 1,000 new jobs over the next two or three years, but nothing is final, the source said.
Crain’s Chicago Business reported the potential deal last week.
The 126,500-square-foot building in Chatham is owned by DL3 Realty, which bought it and another store in Morgan Park when Target closed the two South Side locations in 2019. DL3 managing partner Leon Walker declined to confirm any discussions with Discover but said several large-scale users are interested in the property. ....
