PLEASANT VALLEYÂ â Amid what s been an up-and-down first few weeks of the season for East Fairmont High softball, junior Blair Nuzum has kept right on ticking as one of the Bees foundational leaders, both on and off the field.Â
She s been the Bees No. 1 arm in the circle all year long and atop the team s order at the plate. Even when she doesn t get the start at pitcher, Nuzum is a more-than-capable defensive option who can play in either the infield or the outfield.Â

RACHELÂ â From the instant Olivia Toland began her high school basketball career at North Marion High last season as a freshman, she emitted a certain unwavering fearlessness and bravado, a sort of big-time, big-game attitude.
No matter the stakes of a moment or a game, no matter the quality of her teammates around her, Toland played the same way â she carried herself the same way and asserted herself in the same fashion.Â

RACHEL â It was just the second game of her high school career, but North Marion freshman Emma Freels was already primed for the moment.
The Lady Huskies were playing on the road at Oak Glen in search of their second straight win to open the season, and Freels, despite being a newbie on an NMHS team that won 25 basketball games last season, stepped right into the starring role.
