Memorial Day ceremony brings back old traditions View Comments This year s Memorial Day ceremony at the Piti Veterans Cemetery was different than the one held in May of 2020, when the yearly tradition honoring fallen veterans was closed to the public due to the pandemic. This year, 99 official guests were invited by the governor s office, mostly representatives from veteran s groups and military servicemen and women. Residents visiting family members at the cemetery walked between the rows of headstones or attended the ceremony at a distance, though the governor s office encouraged virtual attendance.  Vets from local motorcycle club Guam Hawgs were also able to hold their usual motorcade down Nimitz Hill, the Andersen Honor Guard was there to give the rifle volley salute, and the Navy Band played taps in person, instead of the prerecorded track that was heard last year.
