In Cleveland and across the Great Lakes, efforts to reduce waste are not only helping the environment, but also creating new business opportunities. A wide-ranging network of nonprofits, governmental entities, universities, and others are supporting these efforts.
Daniel Brown and Michael Robinson wanted 'to be farmers' when they started Cleveland-based Rust Belt Riders in 2014 and started hauling restaurant food waste via bicycles, at first to produce the organic compost they needed. Then, in 2018, RBR introduced its Tilth Soil brand for other growers.
