Johannesburg, Jan 28 : Zak Yacoob, chairman of Cricket South Africa s interim board, has stepped down from his post following the publication of a telephonic conversation between him and a South African journalist, in which Yacoob used abusive language.
The recording, between Sunday Times journalist Tiisetso Malepa and Yacoob, is of an interview in which Malepa asks Yacoob about allegations made by suspended acting CEO Kugandrie Govender that the judge had treated her unfairly and offered her money to seek legal counsel, reports ESPNcricinfo. ....

The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) notes today’s developments that Cricket South Africa (CSA) interim board chair retired Constitutional Court Judge Zak Yacoob has been replaced, however we are disturbed by his behaviour and the abuse he meted towards a Sunday Times Journalist Tiisetso Malepa, who was merely doing his job.
Malepa was following a story in which the suspended CSA acting CEO Kugandrie Govender alleges she was verbally harassed by justice Yacoob. Govender had written two letters of grievance on December 2 and 3 last year to the CSA members’ council, claiming she was treated unfairly by Yacoob, who is a retired judge of the Constitutional Court. ....

Sports minister Nathi Mthethwa has told the Cricket SA (CSA) interim board that its chairperson, retired judge Zak Yacoob, must go.
The minister met the board on Wednesday and communicated his desire for the retired judge to step down from his position for bringing CSA into disrepute.
Mthethwa was stunned after he read the Sunday Times and then listened to the audio on TimesLIVE to the volley of insults that the retired judge of the Constitutional Court fired at Arena Holdings journalist Tiisetso Malepa during a heated interview. ....

The news was confirmed by the department of sport on Wednesday.
On Monday,
TimesLIVE journalist Tiisetso Malepa published a recording of a telephonic conversation he had with Yacoob where he asked the retired Judge questions around the suspension of former acting CSA CEO Kugandrie Govender.
Yacoob can be heard to be frustrated and dismissive throughout the conversation and he calls Malepa idiotic numerous times as well as calling him dishonest , irresponsible and a rogue .
After the recording was made public, Yacoob through a CSA statement on Tuesday apologised, with the statement acknowledging that the tone of his comments was inappropriate . ....

While the Proteas were toiling on the field in Pakistan on Wednesday, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) interim board, and particularly chairman Zak Yacoob, was in a crisis meeting with Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa.
Yacoob launched a stunning verbal attack on a member of the media last week, which was recorded and published on
TimesLive. It revealed, in stark detail, the learned judge’s short temper and bullying tactics. It made his position untenable.
As a result, Yacoob has resigned and admitted in a statement that his behaviour and comments were “inappropriate”. Fellow interim board member Dr Stavros Nicolaou will lead the board until the end of its tenure on 15 February. ....
