Maleik Acosta To say that there has been an increase of gang activity and gang related murders in Belize City over the past few days would almost be an understatement. Many persons have gone to be wounded while a couple were killed. One of those persons is Maleik Acosta. The 23-year-old was driving along West Street toward Water Lane when a gunman fired multiple times at him as he drove by. He was hit by the bullets but this did not stop Acosta from continuing driving his Ford Explorer SUV to the hospital. He continued driving and in the process, knocked down 59-year-old George Lewis, who is now hospitalized for his injuries. Still, Acosta continued and made his way on to Vernon Street where he drove into a parked Mazda Tribute before turning on to Youth for the Future Drive. He was unable to make it much further and never made it to the hospital as he lost consciousness and crashed into a store located on Douglas Jones Street. ....
Dec 21, 2020 Malik Acosta On Sunday night, shots rang out once again in the Old Capital, this time near the intersection of West Street and Water Lane. Today, shards of glass from a vehicle driven by the victim are on the concrete street where at least one gunman took aim at Malik Acosta. An injured Acosta tried to make his way to the hospital, but expired before he could get there. He lost consciousness and crashed into a fence several blocks away on Douglas Jones Street. Police discovered his body behind the steering wheel of the vehicle. News Five’s Duane Moody found out from police today that his murder is believed to be gang-related. ....
