Dundee publican urges Holyrood to reconsider negative parliamentary bill

© Kris Miller A Dundee publican has urged politicians to reconsider a parliamentary bill he believes will have a negative impact on the business. Craig McLaughlin, who runs The Admiral bar on Camperdown Road, has spoken out to oppose the Tied Pubs (Scotland) Bill which is currently passing through the Scottish Parliament. He describes the legislation, which would introduce additional regulations to commercial partnerships between a pub tenant, pub company and building owner, as “taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut”. Craig and nine other Dundee pub tenants have now written to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon asking for the bill to be reconsidered.

Sign Up North and north-east pub tenants are among more than 150 from around Scotland who are urging Nicola Sturgeon to halt the passage of potentially “ruinous” legislation through the Scottish Parliament. They have written to the first minister warning the Tied Pubs (Scotland) Bill threatens their livelihoods and the viability of the pubs they operate. The letter is signed by 151 pub tenants throughout the country.
