Jan 19, 2021 Give credit where it’s due Pennsylvania officials and local officials are rolling out a much smoother COVID-19 vaccination process than New York state. All states have their own vaccination phases. For Pennsylvania, Phase 1B includes everyone over 75 years of age and various professional groups. Phase 1C includes ages 65 and up and everyone who meets the minimum age requirement for the vaccines (some 16, some 18) with high risk conditions. Phase 2 includes everyone else, except those who have conditions that makes the vaccine unsafe for them. Most noteworthy, though, is the way the state Health Department is working with other providers for those phases. The state has created a COVID Vaccine Dashboard, which shows that in addition to Warren General Hospital and Warren State Hospital, Gaughn’s Drug Store in Warren and the Tidioute Health Center have agreements to be involved in vaccine distribution. ....
The newly passed federal COVID-19 relief bill provides about four times as much funding for K-12 schools as did the first coronavirus relief bill that Congress passed in March. The increase in funding for schools means a big boost for the Erie School District, which is continuing its financial recovery, and other school districts in the region. The Erie School District, the largest in northwestern Pennsylvania with about 11,000 students and a budget of $210 million, will receive $27,756,501 in aid under the new $900 billion relief legislation, according to preliminary estimates that Republican state senators in Harrisburg received this week. The Erie School District received $6,761,026 in aid through the previous legislation, the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. ....
[email protected] COVID-19 related deaths have climbed sharply since Christmas Eve. “At this time I have had 42 reported COVID-19-related deaths,” Warren County Coroner Melissa Zydonik said Wednesday. “From the 24th to yesterday I have had 14 reported.” Wednesday’s data from the Department of Health increased the death total by one to 26. That figure is about a week behind the numbers provided by Zydonik. There were also 35 new COVID-19 cases in Warren County announced on Wednesday. The department reported 1,460 total cases for the county, an increase of 35, with 1,211 of those being confirmed and 249 probable. There were 22 COVID patients at Warren General Hospital, two of them using ventilators, and five in intensive care, according to the department. ....

SKERDA UPHOLDS SANDUSKY SENTENCE The Associated Press reported in January that Warren County President Judge Maureen Skerda to have his 30- to 60-year child molestation sentence reduced during a brief hearing Tuesday. Presiding via teleconference from the Warren County courthouse, Judge Skerda said she purposely fashioned the prison term to have an impact on the former Penn State assistant football coach and noted Sandusky continues to maintain his innocence. ....
[email protected] With 35 new cases of COVID-19 announced on Monday, and Sunday’s total revised from five to 80, Warren County had an average of almost 60 new cases a day over the weekend. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, there were 35 new cases on Monday, 80 on Sunday, and 59 on Saturday. Sunday’s result was a single-day high for the county, eclipsing the previous high total of 70 from two weeks ago. The department initially reported only five new cases on Sunday. The county has not had a day with a single-digit increase since Nov. 24 when there were seven new cases. ....
