The China National Nuclear Corporation said its 24 th commercial reactor had reached commercial operations status after completing 100 continuous hours of operations at full power. The successful achievement of Tianwan Unit 6 reaching commercial status also marks the completion of the Tainwan Phase III Project, which was designated as construction of Units 5 and 6 at the plant. Both of these reactors are AXPE1000 model reactors. Construction of each began with the first concrete pours for each unit in 2015 for Unit 5 and 2016 for Unit 6, according to Nuclear Engineering International. With no significant delays impeding the schedules, Tianwan Unit 5 reached commercial operations status in 2020. The first of the previous four reactors began operations in June 2007, was the first of four Russian-supplied Gidropress VVER reactors.
