Fighting broke out twice between Military Council, Border Guard Force and Arakan Army (AA) in two different places, namely between Saung Pinya and Sakar Pinyin and between Donekala village and Wet Kyein village in Maungdaw Township on 18 July. On 20 July, the Arakan Army (AA) announced that approximately 20 members of the Military Council were killed and 14 were captured, stated the names and positions of arrestees and dead junta soldiers.
