Demand growing at Akeley-Nevis Food Shelf A record 7,000 pounds of food was distributed last month. With community donations, the food shelf hopes to be able to give each family a ham for Christmas. Last month the Akeley Food Shelf distributed 7,000 pounds of food to people in the Nevis and Akeley area. (Submitted photo) There has been an increase in the number of people using the Akeley-Nevis Food Shelf in the past month, and with more people unemployed due to the governor’s order that closed restaurants and bars, operations manager Steve Green said even more people may need to use the food shelf in the coming weeks.
