Dorothy Chan is a poet and assistant professor of English at UW-Eau Claire.
The Arts + Literature Laboratory kicks off the poetry year 2021 with an online reading by Dorothy Chan, Ernest O. Ãgúnyẹmà and Kirwyn Sutherland streamed live on its YouTube and Facebook pages. Chan is the author of
Revenge of the Asian Woman as well as
Attack of the Fifty-Foot Centerfold and the chapbook
Chinatown Sonnets. Sutherland has been published in
American Poetry Review and elsewhere and has a chapbook,
Jump Ship. Ãgúnyẹmà has also published widely and is the editor of
Maria Gaspar, Huong Ngo, Anna Martine Whitehead (Online)

Sousveillance â watching from below, âthe monitoring of authorities by informal networks of regular people, equipped with little more than cellphone cameras, video blogs and the desire to remain vigilant against the excesses of the powers that be.â
In this conversation, Whitehead, Gaspar, and Ngô will speak on their respective practices which encompass performance, social practice, and installation, among others. They will draw relationships amongst their research which engage themes of liberation, surveillance, and belonging in the spirit of a collective building of knowledge.
