Thornley Myers, CEO-VINLEC attributed the ‘unusual’ reading on the April electricity bills, to the disruption in the regular meter reading cycle, caused by the eruption of La Soufrière.

A delay in the meter reading cycle during the month of April occasioned by the explosive eruption of La Soufrière, has been blamed for the increased consumption and resulting increase in amounts owing, on the bills of some consumers.
This delay was attributed to the company’s inability to complete the meter reading process, Thornley Myers, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VINLEC said in a virtual press briefing on April 30. ....

New VINLEC list for suspended accounts

New VINLEC list for suspended accounts
The original list of communities on mainland St. Vincent where VINLEC customers will receive a suspension in their electricity bills has been revised.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VINLEC, Thornley Myers, described the revised list as excluding some from the original list and including new ones.
The new list covered communities on the Northeastern (Windward) portion from Mount Young Northwards, and the Northwestern (Leeward) section, from Belle Isle upwards.
Belle Isle and Gordon Yard and others have been added to the list for the Leeward side of the island, while Park Hill, South Rivers, Chester, Gorse and Grand Sable were taken off the list for those on the Windward. ....

Longer billing periods than usual, coupled with a higher fuel surcharge, has resulted in customers receiving a higher than usual electricity bill for April.
But the St Vincent Electricity Services Ltd(VINLEC) has assured consumers that this means that there will be a shorter billing period in May.
VINLEC’S Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Thornley Myers, provided a thorough breakdown of the situation at a virtual press conference on Friday, April 30.
“…On a monthly basis there are nine meter readers who visit all 46,000 meters and provide meter reading for billing,” he explained.
“Under normal conditions this is a fairly tight schedule because meter reading commences on the…first working day of the month, and ends approximately two to three days before the end of the month,” he said. ....
