Growing up the city swimming pools were a big part of my life. I miss those days of being a young carefree kid and having my mom drop me off at Southwest Park swimming pool for the day. Oh and I do mean the day. I think me and little sister got there when they opened and were probably one of the last ones to leave at closing time. ....

Temperatures are warming and pool time is approaching with Canyon and Amarillo saying today they are ready to kick off the season at the end of May. Canyon’s opening day will be May 29 and Amarillo’s will be two days later on Memorial Day. The Canyon Aqua Park will have two sessions per day with an hour between them for sanitizing. ....

The Director says these types of parks are popping up across the nation and Amarillo is not being left behind. “We have designed in a volleyball area so there is actually a more active area where you can play water volleyball or water basketball, so we also have basketball,” said Michael Kashuba, director for the City of Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department “And it is obviously accessible to everybody in our community to it does meet all of our ADA requirements.” ....
