Critics of Mayor Adams have blamed him for the $36 million in cuts the city’s public libraries are facing, but some politicos are also starting to point their fingers at those who directly oversee the libraries and say their salaries are far too generous for them not to take pay cuts themselves.

At Monday s city council meeting, St. Charles Mayor Lora Vitek will recommend Richard Balla to fill the Ward 1 alderman seat left vacant last month when Dan Stellato stepped down to move to Arizona.
Balla, who s lived in Ward 1 since 1997, is a lifelong St. Charles resident who lost the Ward 1 alderman election in April to incumbent Ron Silkaitis. Balla, a graduate of St. Charles High School and Iowa State University, is the vice president of accounting at Tour Edge Golf in Batavia.
The St. Charles City Council will vote on Balla s appointment on Monday. If approved, his term will expire in 2023.

St. Charles has narrowed its search to four candidates to replace 1st Ward Alderman Dan Stellato, the city council s longest-tenured member who resigned last month because he s moving to Arizona.
Among the candidates vying for the seat is Richard Balla, who lost to Ron Silkaitis in the April election and is vice president of accounting at Tour Edge Golf in Batavia. Zachary Ewoldt, a gas system analyst with Peoples Gas in Chicago, is also a candidate along with Thomas Galante, a member of the St. Charles natural resources commission and a pricing manager at SunSource in Addison, and Don Kage, an auto body technician for Tesla in Elk Grove Village.
