You ve done a series of shows on race and you travel around the country talking to people about race. and you hear that things are worse than they were before no, that s not true. and i think about your childhood in alabama and what was going on back then, and, you know, i wonder if first of all, anyone who says race relations aren t better, that s just idiotic. racism does exist and always will, but for people to say things aren t better that s just ridiculous. i mean i can actually enter a restaurant i want to, go in the same bathroom and drink out of the same water fountain. that stuff, but what i talk about is economic racism, when you don t give people economic opportunity. and i actually think that we spend too much time talking about race. ....
Voted democrat our entire life and now we re starting like, well, how much has it really helped us? we know the republicans aren t better. let s get that out of the way. but if you re going to have us vote for you, we ve got to start holding them accountable. our neighborhoods are not better. our schools are not better. crime is not better. so, we ve got to start holding these politicians accountable. do you think he s right about the black vote? i don t think he s right that things aren t better. another part of the interview he said things are much better than when he was growing up in segregated alabama. part of that is because of what the democratic party did on civil rights. he is right that at many times the democratic party assumes the african-american votes and other minority votes, assumes the vote of poor people. doesn t communicate and engage in the way that it should. i think that s one of the reasons we saw the result we saw ....
In fact they are worse for the middle class. they re worse for people across this country. things aren t better. you know that s what people are going to ask. they will ask whether hillary clinton is type of person we can trust to turn the country around. right now, people don t believe that she is. and she has been part of the problem, part of the obama administration. she represents a third term of barack obama. that is going to be a problem for her. then it will be up to us too to provide better vision for this country and have real adult conversation about what is happening with debt, what is happening with jobs, and those are the things that people will want to talk about. we ll do better job turning out the vote, having better data and digital engagement plan than we did four years ago. we ll have to be better everywhere in order to win. that is our intention. martha: we will see. you know we see in the national polls that it looks like, as it always is, pretty tight race, really ....

Hollywood, you ve got to be a liberal? i have no idea. i don t understand it. i want it to stop. it s important. so i think that more people like me need to voice our opinions. what to that do to you personally? because that is a hard thing to be in the middle of a huge controversy. you seemed to handle it with grace it gives me more power and makes me want to stand up more and realize more people are uninformed and ignorant. to me that is sad. you voted for obama the first time. i did. why? what do you think of him now? i voted for him because i believed we needed a black president i thought it was a step in the right direction for country. then, i realized what he was doing and started paying attention to how government affects our every day life. i don t like it. things aren t better. ....
