COVID-19 cases in Fort McMurray have nearly doubled since April 1, setting a record for active cases since the pandemic began last March. There are now more active cases in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo since COVID-19 was first reported in Fort McMurray on March 19.
On Monday, Alberta Health reported Fort McMurray had 165 new COVID-19 cases and 15 recoveries, bringing the active total to 314 cases. Rural communities had three new cases and five recoveries, bringing active total to five cases.

Premier Jason Kenney is pleading with Albertans to follow COVID-19 health measures after the province reported more than 800 new cases for the second day in a row. But, Kenney did not announce any new shutdown orders as COVID-19 numbers continue rising in Alberta.
He asked people to meet outdoors and stay distanced if they do meet at all. Anyone dining out should only do so with people they live with, or two close contacts if that person lives alone, he said.

Province Opening Large-Scale Vaccination Site In MacDonald Island Park

A new large-scale vaccination site will be opening in Fort McMurray.
Starting on April 5, a clinic will be up and running at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre curling rink at MacDonald Island Park.
“MacDonald Island is, in many ways, the heart of our community. Convenient and safe access to COVID-19 vaccines is key to the health and well-being of residents, and the social and economic recovery of our communities,” said Mayor Don Scott.
“By using a larger facility with better parking, more people will be able to access their shots faster and safer. This is a logical step in the right direction.” ....
